i just finished reading desert flower, an autobiography about waris dirie, an incredible woman and model. (it was really good and touching—i teared up a lot, although that doesn’t mean much coming from me.)
when she was young, her family was nomadic, traveling all over the somali desert. after escaping somalia and coming to the west, she writes how she still likes to be nomadic, staying in one place no more than a few years, traveling light and constantly changing locations.
this year in college has made me think that maybe i am like that too.
i get antsy if i’m in one place too long. so instead, for each break, i’ve been exploring the east coast and it’s been so fun. i love “flan-ing” about and doing whatever i feel like at the moment. i like being able to take off with just a backpack and travel light, and travel aimlessly.
i wonder if this is a result of being cooped up in libraries studying too much or if it actually reflects my character.
well, i’ve got 3 more years to continue exploring.
